Some of Your Business is an interactive installation in public space that explores modes of behavior and sociability in corporate environments. The Urban Homesteading Project will salvage old office equipment and partition materials from office building dumpsters and set up a cubicle workstation on a sidewalk/public space in Lower Manhattan. Workers will be approached on the street and invited to temporarily occupy the cubicles and share their experiences of working and relating to others in a corporate environment. Participants will be asked to describe coping methods, behaviors, patterns of social exchange, and the ways in which they personalize a standardized space. Information will be gathered using a computer form questionnaire, audio recordings and surveillance/webcam video depending on the preference of the participants. The installation will be set up from 9am to 6pm. At the close of the installation, all office furniture and equipment will be donated or recycled. Some of Your Business is and investigation into the socio-spatial structures of corporate America as they relate to productivity, mechanisms of control and human interaction |
